AMD Ryzen Overclocking Linux Driver
AMD Ryzen Overclocking Comes to Linux
AMD has submitted Linux kernel patches for an official Ryzen overclocking driver, which could pave the way for more comprehensive Ryzen tuning tools on Linux, similar to those found on Windows with the AMD Ryzen Master Utility, and may also support other AMD products like the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X processor and the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card.
This initial version offers only basic controls for CPU power limits and SMT, but it is a significant step forward for Linux users who want to overclock their Ryzen CPUs, such as the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X or the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, and may also be useful for users of other AMD products like the Samsung Galaxy S25 smartphone or the Apple Watch Series 10.
The new driver may also be compatible with other Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu or Fedora, and could potentially support other hardware like the iPad Air M2 or the Amazon Echo smart speaker.
