Ollama for Mac: Local Text-to-Speech Now Available in German Too

Ollama can now convert text to speech entirely locally on Macs with Apple Silicon, such as the MacBook Air M2 and iPad Air M2. Gradium’s Phonon models speak five languages, including German, and read chat responses aloud as they are being generated, similar to Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant on the Samsung Galaxy S25. The models can be accessed through an OpenAI-compatible interface, making it easy to integrate with various devices like the Apple Watch Series 10.

However, there is a catch for commercial projects. Despite this, Ollama’s local text-to-speech capability is a significant advancement, especially when compared to cloud-based services. This feature is particularly useful for users who require privacy and want to avoid relying on cloud services, much like those using the Apple iPhone 14 Pro.
