CXMT HBM3E Mass Production
CXMT to Mass Produce HBM3E Memory Chips
CXMT is set to mass produce HBM3E memory chips in late Q4 2026, despite yielding only 20%-30%. This move is largely driven by China’s efforts to address the severe memory shortage faced by domestic AI accelerator firms, which are struggling due to U.S. export restrictions. The new HBM3E chips are expected to offer performance close to that of older HBM3 silicon, but at a higher production cost. This development is crucial for Chinese tech companies, such as those producing AI-powered smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S25 or the Apple iPhone 15.
The HBM3E memory chips will be used in a variety of applications, including AI accelerators, data centers, and high-performance computing systems. The production of these chips will also have an impact on the global tech industry, with companies like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft potentially benefiting from the increased availability of high-performance memory. For instance, the iPad Air M2 and Apple Watch Series 10 may see improved performance with the integration of HBM3E memory.
In terms of performance, early testing suggests that the HBM3E chips will offer speeds close to those of the older HBM3 silicon. However, the higher production costs may affect the pricing of devices that use these chips, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 or the Apple iPad Pro M2. Nevertheless, the mass production of HBM3E memory chips is a significant step forward for the tech industry, and it will be interesting to see how it affects the development of future devices, like the iPhone 16 or the Samsung Galaxy S26.
